COMPRESSPORT Compression Gear Review
Posted on April 17, 2012 | No CommentsFrom Switzerland comes the king of veino-muscular compression technology in Europe – COMPRESSPORT. All COMPRESSPORT products are 100% European made – R&D, fibers, knitting, assembly, dying, testing, etc. They are also tested in the toughest conditions – where the toughest races take place like Abu Dhabi, Hawaii, Mont Blanc, etc. For the past few weeks, I’ve been testing several compression products from the Swiss-based manufacturer but focused on 3 main ones: US (Ultra Silicone) calf sleeve, ForQuad thigh sleeve, and ProRacing arm sleeve. Being a sockless runner, I’ve only tested their compression socks with casual shoes on cold days –... -
Knuckle Lights Review
Posted on February 28, 2012 | No CommentsI normally wear reflective running jackets when running or walking in the dark or low light so moving vehicles can see me. That is only part of the solution – you have to be able to also SEE where you are going! This is where Knuckle Lights come in. I would normally use a handheld flashlight or a head mounted light when running or walking. I just happened to be an LED flashlight geek as I walk my dogs from 2 to 3 miles nightly. I’ve owned many LED flashlights since 2009, from a single LED to 51 LEDs! But... -
In A Class By Themselves – First Look Preview
Posted on January 13, 2012 | No CommentsIt is rare to see many innovative technologies in the outdoor and fitness category. Something that is common in consumer electronics (my previous geek expertise) is now starting to show up in running shoes and running gear. Here are a few unique gems I stumbled upon recently. Ashmei Ultimate Softshell Running Jacket – The James Bond of Running Jackets from the United Kingdom, windproof, water resistant, fast wicking, warm and extremely breathable. Back panel is made of Merino wool. Full review coming soon. MSRP $275. SKORA Running FORM – The Apple of Running Shoes from start-up SKORA features a full... -
Run Dem Crew ‘Away! Away! Away!’ Book Review
Posted on January 2, 2012 | No CommentsRosie Lee is a hybrid creative agency. Run Dem Crew (RDC) is more than a running club. In 2011, several of its members took on their biggest challenge – the Virgin London Marathon. The book follows the journey of several team members as they trained for the marathon, from their regular Tuesday sessions through to the final finish line. The book, named after the ‘Away! Away! Away!‘ members shout as they set out on a run, is designed to celebrate and raise awareness of the crew and its activities. And it redefines what team running is: the physical benefits, the... -
Garmin Forerunner 610 HRM Watch Review
Posted on December 13, 2011 | No CommentsIf you’ve ever used a heart rate monitor (HRM) before, you’ll immediately fall in love with the Garmin Forerunner 610 heart rate monitor. With a touch, tap or swipe, Forerunner 610 lets you get on with your run while it tracks all the details. The Forerunner 610 gives you several ways to get in touch with your training data. The swipe and scroll action makes it easy to adjust settings, review your run history and more. A quick tap of the screen is all it takes to advance to the next training page so you can see more data. Once... -

Simple Hydration Water Bottle
Posted on October 8, 2011 | No CommentsWe recently reviewed Amphipod handheld hydration systems and I received a couple of emails from readers asking if there are any hydration system that can work for runners with small hands or thin waistlines. Then I remembered reading about Simple Hydration on the Kick Starter web site (the largest funding platform for creative projects in the world), a site that I visit weekly. Simple Hydration founder, Brian Hock, loves to run and completed his first marathon when he was 12 years old. Brian has also completed 2 Ironman Triathlons in the last 3 years. Simple Hydration is the result of... -
Amphipod Hydration Systems – Handhelds
Posted on September 8, 2011 | No CommentsWe recently reviewed Amphipod waistpack hydration systems and after testing extensively in the scorching weather for a full month with Amphipod handheld hydration systems, we have decided to write a follow-up review. We tested out four of Amphipod’s latest handheld systems: Hydraform Thermal-Lite™ (12oz and 20oz), Hydraform Handheld Pocket™ (20oz), and PURErun Handheld™ (16oz). All the Hydraform handhelds have an ergonomic design that allows your hand to relax and they also easily adjusts to fit any hand size. The flatter Hydraform bottles also eliminate hand cramping. And they all have an easy flow-regulating spout from sip-to-gulp. The Thermal-Lite™ models have... -
HeadSweats Performance Hats
Posted on August 29, 2011 | No CommentsHeadsweats is a maker of high-performance, ultra-light, super wicking hats and visors that keep athletes safe, as well as dry. I sweat a lot when I run. And with the heat in the West Coast, I’m always wearing a running hat. But most hats do not keep the sweat off my eyes and face. Until I discovered Headsweats in a pair of hats I received from La Sportiva and Newton Running – the semi-custom Go Hat. Besides the Go Hat, Headsweats has the Race Hat, Ultralite Hat, Dry Visibility Hat, and Protech Hat. And a whole series of performance visors,...
